circular road
Location 2
All of this road in the picture was used in the film, we are looking back down the road the white building bottom left is the Quiet Man Heritage Cottage the extras stood along the wall by the river. All of the extras were local people and got paid 30 Shillings a day for their work. This road was used when Mrs. Playfair came around the corner beside the Quiet Man Cottage and cycled the tandem over to the wall by the river. She whispered something in Father Peter Lonergan's ear, he jumps upon the wall and tells his Catholic congregation to spread out and cheer like good Protestants when the Bishop comes by. This road was also used at the end of the film, when the Bishop came around the corner in his car. The extras threw their hats in the air to welcome the visiting Bishop. This road was used again for the last scene when all the cast were waving good bye to the Bishop. Where the people are on the right of the picture, opposite them is the street were the dying mans cottage is located.
the dying man's cottage
Do you remember the dying man who Father Paul was giving the last rites to, the fight was in full swing when he heard them, he got out of bed and went down the street pulling up his trousers as he went. The dying mans Cottage is in the middle of the picture and is third on the left up the hill. When Father Paul came out of the dying mans cottage he turned left and ran up the hill to tell father Lonergan about the fight, at the top of the hill in the film you can see Curran's Pub with a thatched roof. That pub was where Ryan's Hotel is today and where the sign restaurant is now. It was used during the cattle-fair scene when Danaher was drinking pints of Guinness outside the Pub doors after selling his sheep, the guy walking up the street is yours truly.
