He is disturbed by this sudden appeal to his Jewish roots. Each of Israel's Arab neighbours has vowed to invade the poorly prepared country as soon as partition is granted. He is made commander of the Israeli forces just before the war begins.

The Conqueror 1956, In ancient times, the Mongolian warlord Temujin {John Wayne} must do battle against the rival tribe that killed his father. The battles pale in comparison with Temujin's home life, as he attempts to woo the heart of the red-haired Tartar prisoner Bortai {Susan Hayward} whom he has captured in a raid. He must also deal with various intrigues within his palace. Eventually, Bortai falls to his manly charms, Temujin defeats his enemies within and without, and is crowned Genghis Khan.

the cowboys

The Cowboys 1972, Will Andersen "John Wayne" finds himself with a herd of cattle with which he has to get to market before the winter sets in but has no men to help him. He turns to a group of young school boys as his last hope to get the job done. There is no better training for these boys than hands on training as they don't know what they are in for. However, neither Andersen nor the boys but one know that a gang of cattle thieves are stalking them. They set out as schoolboys but return as Cowboys.

dakota

Dakota 1945, In 1871, professional gambler John Devlin (John Wayne) elopes with Sandra "Sandy" Poli (Vera Ralston), daughter of Marko Poli (Hugo Haas), an immigrant who has risen to railroad tycoon. Sandy, knowing that the railroad is to be extended into Dakota, plans to use their $20,000 nest egg to buy land options to sell to the railroad at a profit. On the stage trip to Ft. Abercrombie, their fellow passengers are Jim Bender (Ward Bond) and Bigtree Collins (Mike Mazurki), who practically own the town of Fargo and Devlin is aware that they are prepared to protect the little empire...trying to drive out the farmers by burning their property, destroying their wheat, and blaming the devastation on the Indians.

Dark Command 1940, The story takes place before the civil war when Bob Seton {John Wayne}takes a run for Federal Marshal of Kansas against William Cantrell {Walter Pigeon}. He ends up Defeating Cantrell which infuriates him. Cantrell then steals away Seton's girl and manipulates her into marriage. The rivalry between them comes to a climax when Seton exposes Cantrell and his Guerrillas.

Dawn Rider 1935, When John Mason's father is killed, John is wounded. Attracted to his nurse Alice, a conflict arises between him and his friend Ben who plans to marry Alice. John later finds the killer of his father but goes to face him not knowing Ben has removed the bullets from his gun.

the desert trail

The Desert Trail 1935, Just after John Scott {John Wayne} gets his rodeo prize money, the Official is robbed and murdered by Pete {Al Ferguson}. Pete then says he just saw John and his friend Kansas Charlie {Eddy Chandler} leaving the office. The two fugitives flee to another town where they assume new names. But Pete arrives to point them out and they find themselves in jail. Pete's reluctant accomplice, knowing they are innocent, gets them out and they head after Pete to try and get a confession.

donovan's reef

Donovan's Reef 1963, Michael Patrick 'Guns' Donovan {John Wayne} prefers carousing with his pals Doc Dedham {Jack Warden} and 'Boats' Gilhooley, {Lee Marvin} until Dedham's high-society daughter Amelia {Elizabeth Allen} shows up in their South Sea paradise.

The Drop Kick 1927, starring Richard Barthelmess, Barbara Kent, Dorothy Revier, John Wayne was an  extra in stands and football player uncredited. College football player Jack Hamill finds his reputation on the line when he pays an innocent visit to a woman whose husband kills himself.

eldorado

Eldorado 1966, Hired gunman Cole Thornton {John Wayne} turns down a job with Bart Jason {Edward Asner} as it would mean having to fight an old sheriff friend {Robert Mitchum}. Some months later he finds out the lawman is on the bottle and a top gunfighter {Christopher George} is heading his way to help Jason. Along with young Mississippi {James Caan}, handy with a knife and now armed with a diabolical shotgun, Cole returns to Eldorado.

the fighting kentuckian

The Fighting Kentuckian 1949, In Alabama in 1818, Kentucky militiaman John Breen {John Wayne} falls in love with a French exile and discovers a plot to steal the land her fellow exiles plan to settle on, with the help of Willie Paine {Oliver Hardy} he thwarts their plan.

the fighting seabees

The Fighting Seabees 1944 starring  John Wayne, Susan Hayward and Dennis O'Keefe. Construction workers in World War II in the Pacific are needed to build military sites, but the work is dangerous and they doubt the ability of the Navy to protect them. After a series of attacks by the Japanese, something new is tried, Construction Battalions (CBs=Seabees). The new CBs have to both build and be ready to fight.

the first rebel

The First Rebel 1939, Set in Pennsylvania, 1759, during the war between the British and French. A trader Callender {Brian Donlevy} is supplying arms and rum to the Delaware Indians. The local settlers rebel and elect Jim Smith {John Wayne} as their leader. Dressed as Indians Jim and his men attack and burn one of Callender`s wagon trains and besiege a British fort until finally the truth emerges.

flame of the barbary coast

Flame Of The Barbary Coast 1945, Montana cowboy Duke Fergus {John Wayne} travels to 1906 San Francisco to collect a debt from Tito Morell {Joseph Schildkraut} who runs a place on the dodgy Barbary Coast. Though he heads home after losing the money to Morell's card-sharping, Duke takes a crash course on card play and returns with all his savings ready to take on Morell and start up his own place. A lot of this is due to Morell's woman Flaxen {Ann Dvorak} whom Duke has fallen for. The earth may soon be moving for him in quite dramatic ways.

flashing spikes

Flashing Spikes 1962, Starring John Wayne, an old ballplayer {James Stewart}, thrown out of baseball due to a bribery scandal, becomes friends with a young phenomenon {Patrick Wayne}. The younger player is at first tainted by his association with the old timer, but eventually the truth about the scandal is revealed.
