Pat Cohan's Bar At Innisfree
Location 4

This is the part of Cong that was called Innisfree. It's here on this street that Sean arrives in Innisfree for the first time by pony and trap driven by Michaeleen Og. In this scene you can see the Market Cross, Clarke's Pub and Ryan's Hotel in the background of the film. Pat Cohan's Bar is located opposite the Market Cross. The film makers were looking for a long building because one half of the building was supposed to act as a hotel were Sean Thornton stayed before he bought back his ancestral home and the other part of the building was to act as the local bar. In the film there was a sign hanging from the building saying "The Sarsfield Hotel, proprietor Pat Cohan" but after the filming the present owner sold it to a museum in America. This building was never a bar, it was always the local grocery shop, but the outside of the building was turned into a pub for the filming. Jack Murphy the present owner of Pat Cohan's Bar used to have a Bedford Station Wagon and every night he would take Victor McLaglen to Tuam because Victor said it was the only place he could get a steak big enough for himself, Jack was also a film extra in the fight scene.
